Thirty Things I’ve learned in Thirty Years
I’m turning 30 this week and thinking back on my 30 years of life had me realizing how far I’ve come, how much I’ve changed, and all the things I am excited for in the next phase of life. Here’s 30 things I have learned in 30 years–
Boundaries. This one came for me in the form of having a baby. I wouldn’t say I was great at setting them prior to kids, but I would say I am now haha!
Learning how to say no.
Take so many photos. If your spouse is complaining about how many, you’re probably right on track.
Tell people you love them often. You never know what tomorrow holds.
It’s okay to ask for help.
Stay authentic to yourself.
The little things are the big things.
You need so much less than you think you do. Living in an apartment for 3 years taught me this.
People prioritize what is important to them. Period. Whether that be heath, relationships, work- you will know what is important to someone by what they make the most time for. (or don’t make time for)
Buy clothes that fit. Don’t worry what size they are, worry that they fit you properly. I’ve truly never in my life wondered what size clothes a person was wearing. Only if I liked what they had on.
A few good friends are much better than a lot of sucky ones.
Travel.
Rest IS productive.
Having a life partner is such a privilege.
Be kind. You literally have no idea what someone is going through.
You’ll never be ready or have enough money or time. Just do the thing you’re contemplating.
Take care of your mind. The way you talk to yourself matters. The thoughts you allow in your head and heart, whether from yourself or someone else, are VERY important.
Not everyone will like you. You don’t even like everyone.
Reliving or going back to the past does no one any good.
I believe beauty that comes from the inside radiates on the outside.
It’s okay to not be doing what everyone else is doing. Each person is on their own timeline.
Someone else’s success does not diminish yours.
Stop waiting for that “thing” to be happy. Happy is now. We’re not guaranteed tomorrow.
Quality bedding is an investment I am willing to make.
Dreaming is free and fun. It’s okay to dream. Don’t let anyone tell you it’s not.
Soak up alone time. When you have a spouse or children, you seldom get this. You get immense joy from these things, but rarely do you get alone time.
Enjoy each moment and stage of life. I remember thinking everything took forever in my 20’s. I couldn’t wait for the next thing. Even 5 years ago feels like a lifetime ago and I remember wanting to be where I am today. Just be present, so much can happen in a short amount of time.
Family is so important. Be nice to your siblings.
Doing the RIGHT thing will always matter. And there will always be consequences for NOT.
Age is just a number. It’s an attitude!
I am thrilled to the max for the next chapter of life. I don’t know what it holds, but I know what I learned the 30 years that came before is what’s going to get me to the next 30 and hopefully 30 beyond that. I feel so lucky to get to choose how I live this one wild and crazy life.
These are great for any age! The fact that you learned them by 30 just shows that you’ve always been mature beyond your age. You’re one special woman! At 30 you’re a woman, not a young lady. 😘
Happy 30th birthday and many more!!
